THIS IS IT
Living well is easy when you’re in the right place. How will you know? You’ll just feel it.
“As I drove in I thought, ‘This is it. This is where I’m going to live.’” – Mary Anne Banks, resident of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods
MEET MARY ANNE BANKS, A VIBRANT INDIVIDUAL WHO DISCOVERED HER IDEAL RETIREMENT LIFESTYLE.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Mary Anne is no stranger to community living. The retired Benedictine nun learned long ago the benefits of a wide support network. Her teaching days behind her, she left Chicago for Sarasota just after 9/11. After experiencing Hurricane Charlie, she decided to sell her mobile home and move to a retirement community. The moment she drove into the tranquil grounds of The Fountains, she knew she was home. Ten years after moving in, Mary Anne’s still swimming 60 laps a day. She also thoroughly enjoys the community’s library, loves the café, serves enthusiastically on the hospitality committee and recently signed up for a class on Shakespeare. Clearly, the active, friend-filled lifestyle suits her well.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
You cherished your childhood, grew up, worked hard, made great friends and a good life. So, why should the next phase be any less enjoyable? If you’re fortunate enough to find the right retirement community at the right time, you’ll have more to look forward to than you can even imagine. Nice neighbors, great dining companions and fun pursuits are only the beginning. The trick is to get ahead of the curve. The sooner you start exploring your options, the more excited you’ll become about being the new kid on the block. “I’ve had great role models since I moved in. The older residents have been marvelous role models.” – Mary Anne Banks
LAPS NOT NAPS
Retirement communities are as inspiring as those who live in them. For example, rather than napping after completing laps in the pool, Mary Anne takes an exercise class. There are many to choose from, but Balance and Strength is her favorite of all. She also joins neighbors for games of all sorts, especially blackjack. “The residents here made it very easy for me. They’re very friendly that’s one thing about this place. They’re so friendly and they reach out to a new resident right away.” – Mary Anne Banks
THRILL OF THE HUNT
Even today, some still say Mary Anne is “too young” to live in a retirement community but she doesn’t see it that way. “I think it’s important to move early enough to enjoy the things that are here,” she explains. The most important step of the entire process is beginning the search. “I would drive around Sarasota and anytime I would see a place for retirees I’d go in and ask for brochures. And I went to one and they said, ‘Oh, you’re too young for this community. Why don’t you look at The Fountains?” – Mary Anne Banks
