BOLD STEPS BRING REWARDS
The first step is often the most difficult.
“Judy I think was the one that was more persuasive and said, ‘You know, while we’re breathing and everything is good and we both have our health, let’s do it.’ So we did it.” – Ben and Judy Adams, residents of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods
MEET BEN AND JUDY ADAMS, EXPERIENCED BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURS WHO TOOK A CHANCE ON A LIFESTYLE DECISION THAT’S REALLY PAYING OFF.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Originally from Skaneateles, New York, Ben and Judy Adams have been married more than 50 years. With Judy’s merchandising degree from Endicott College and Ben’s MBA from Syracuse University, they formed an enterprise specializing in women’s leather goods and accessories. Working with factories in Hong Kong, China, Thailand, and India, they traveled the world and grew their business to serve department and specialty stores as well as top catalogue houses. After retiring in 1996, they moved to Osprey, Sarasota. Judy loves to cook and play cards. Ben is a cyclist and stock market enthusiast. They fell in love with The Fountains and moved in October of 2014.
Isn’t it better to stay ahead of the curve? Ben and Judy Adams think so. That’s why they went ahead and moved to a retirement community, even though they’re at the younger end of the spectrum. Now they’re two steps ahead of everyone else. They aren’t missing a beat and they’re calling all their own shots. “We decided what was the point in waiting? We knew that eventually we would come into The Fountains anyway so we just, we went forward. We’re very pleased that we did and we’ve never regretted it at all.” – Ben Adams
TOO GOOD TO PASS UP
Ben and Judy weren’t interested for themselves when they first came to see The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods. They were simply accompanying a friend. The more they learned, however, the more they loved the idea of carefree retirement living for them. When the right apartment opened up – a completely remodeled two-bedroom deluxe with a lake view – they discussed it and decided, why not? Opting for the classic plan, they can cook whenever they want and dine in the Water’s Edge Dining Room or Café de Sol whenever they don’t. “We still do an awful lot outside. We still travel. We still see the kids. But there’s a terrific assortment of activities here for everybody for every age.” – Ben Adams
MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND
One thing Ben and Judy have learned since moving in is that the lifestyle suits them. It makes good sense. Their children are happy they are there. They know it’s not for everyone, but they do believe people owe it a look with their own eyes. “I think many people have preconceived ideas of what a retirement community is all about. And until you break through that and go see for yourself and talk to people, that’s the first step you have to take.” – Ben Adams
