LIFE GOES ON
Life as you know it doesn’t end when you make the move to a retirement community. It just gets better.

“Just because you’re living in a retirement home doesn’t mean that you can’t still continue playing golf or doing those things, seeing your friends and doing your charitable work that you did before.” – Pat Foster, resident of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods

MEET CLYDE AND PAT FOSTER, WHO RELOCATED FROM BENT TREE TO A FULL-SERVICE COMMUNITY SO THEY COULD KEEP ON ENJOYING LIFE TO THE FULLEST.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Clyde and Pat Foster on Monday, August 18th, 2014. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Residents of Bent Tree in Sarasota for 28 years, Clyde and Pat Foster met there, marrying eight years ago after each of them was widowed. Clyde and Pat both enjoy playing golf and Bridge. They also share a passion for art, photography and wine. They decided to look into retirement community living when they were healthy and happy because they started to lose too many of their friends. They didn’t want to give up any of the friends and activities they enjoyed, they only wanted to gain access to more opportunities than they previously had. After looking at six communities in the area, they moved to The Fountains around Thanksgiving time in 2013.

ROOM TO MOVE
Important to the Fosters in their search for the ideal retirement residence was room to move around. The apartments at The Fountains were the largest they found and the grounds were spacious, too. “We found that this was a beautiful location and the staff as well as all the people that we met here were very friendly and supportive and cooperative. They were very cooperative in remodeling everything and setting it up the way that would be satisfactory to us…. We added any number of things including a bar. We were able to pick out all of the colors, colors of tile and we put in all new kitchen cabinets and so forth.” – Clyde Foster

ADAPT AND THRIVE
Set aside a little time for researching, learning and planning ahead to ensure a thriving future. When it comes to preparing for your best tomorrow, there’s no better time than today. “We thought that this would be a good time for us to get into a retirement community while we were still in good health and could make a whole new set of friends here.” – Clyde Foster

“I’d say make the decision while you can. We’ve seen so many cases where the children may live up north and the parents live down south and nobody knows what to do about a health situation.” – Pat Foster

MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY
The Fosters take their meals à la carte with the option to add a full service plan later on. The flexibility of financing gave them the ability to preserve their equity as best they could. Clyde can work out with friends at his old gym, while Pat takes exercise and balance classes on site. Most of all, the flexibility of care options gives them both – and their kids – peace of mind. “The big issue is that here everything, assisted living as well as nursing, is all on the same campus available to us.” – Clyde Foster
