NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT
Why leave the future to fate when you can move to the right retirement community now and enjoy every minute?

“My daughter has thanked me many times for doing this so that she doesn’t have to worry what to do with mom and dad in the future.” – Evelyn Turchik, resident of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods

MEET JIM AND EVELYN TURCHIK, FORMER RESIDENTS OF UNIVERSITY PARK.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Jim and Evelyn Turchik on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Married in 1969, Evelyn and Jim retired to Sarasota from Syracuse, NY, where Jim taught infectious disease at SUNY for 30 years. Evelyn retired early from social work to raise two daughters and a son. Before moving to The Fountains in July of 2015, Jim and Evelyn lived in University Park for 11 years. Together they enjoy their boating club, Rays baseball, biking, walking and their cat, Princess Lilly Rose. Evelyn also enjoys reading and volunteering at her church while Jim enjoys playing piano and swimming. On days he doesn’t swim his mile, Jim works out in The Fountains’ adjacent gym and he often attends Watermark University courses on surprisingly diverse subjects.

TOO YOUNG FOR WHAT?
So you think you’re too young for retirement community living? So did friends of Evelyn and Jim Turchik when they made their move at 75 and 73. “You’re too young to do that,” friends would say. They disagreed. Now they’re busy enjoying every minute of their worry-free lives. Evelyn says, “We tell them all the time that we are so happy we did it.” There is no magic age. It only takes a practical examination of the future to determine that the longer you wait to make a change, the more difficult change will be. “We didn’t move because we didn’t like where we were living. We needed different things in the long run.” – Jim Turchik

EUREKA!
When Jim and Evelyn started their search for the right retirement community, they struck gold sooner than expected. The ideal apartment happened to come available, with the extra guest room for their granddaughter’s overnight visits and even fit Jim’s baby grand piano. “We have the room here. We just love our place. We pat ourselves on the back all the time and say, ‘We’ve done the right thing.’” – Evelyn Turchik

“I’m a retired physician and so I retired a little bit earlier than perhaps most physicians have but I’ve enjoyed my retirement immensely. I’ve been very gratified by the things that I pursued. And this is a place that has continued to fulfill it.” – Jim Turchik

PLAN TO AVOID THE STRUGGLE
Jim’s brother in Connecticut passed away a year before Jim and Evelyn decided to move. Lack of planning made managing his health along with a large home and property a painful struggle. “I started to think that if something possibly happened to my wife or me, we would have a difficult time going through the whole process of trying to find outside help if not family help so that was a challenge… It’s very hard to get good help coming in, at a proper time, who are caring and that was a little daunting for us.” – Jim Turchik
